In December, an MSC Cruises passenger jumped from one of its ships while sailing from Europe to South America. The chances of falling overboard on a cruise ship are extremely low. According to its statement, the Coast Guard suspended its mission after searching 5,625 square miles, an area roughly the size of Connecticut.

The Coast Guard shared video footage of the rescue on Twitter, showing the moment the man was found and brought aboard an agency helicopter. There are a number of passengers who were onboard at the time of the tragedy who have recollected the events. The tragic news has been further confirmed by passengers, who said it appeared to be an ‘impulsive’ and ‘spur of the moment’ decision. Carnival Valor had said in a statement to ABC News that it conducted a search-and-rescue operation after Grimes went missing. The ship was on its way to Cozumel, a Mexican island in the Caribbean, and was released by the Coast Guard to continue to its destination after the rescue was made.

"We are beyond grateful that this case ended with a positive outcome," said Lt. Seth Gross, a Sector New Orleans search and rescue mission coordinator. The cruise ship was released by the Coast Guard from search and rescue efforts and will continue its way to Norfolk, Virginia, where it's scheduled to arrive Tuesday. When a passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise recently fell overboard it wasn’t his own cruise ship that rescued him. The crew of a Disney cruise line that just happened to be passing by actually fished him out of the water. The Coast Guard is searching for a 35-year-old man who fell overboard while on a Carnival cruise ship near Florida on Monday, according to a statement.

A cruise turned into a nightmare for people aboard Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas when a young man jumped overboard shortly after 4 a.m. Levion Parker, 20, was identified by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. He has been missing since he jumped overboard on April 4 in front of his brother and father on the cruise to Cuba and the Bahamas. The 22-year-old man was a passenger on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas when, due to unknown reasons; he ended up in the water. That’s when passengers aboard the Disney Magic ship saw him and alerted the ship’s crew.

Family budgeters beware:

"He can be seen climbing on a lifeboat and jumping from there," a company spokesperson said in an update issued Tuesday. Officials have not released any identifying information about the man other than his age. In a statement to The Post, Royal Caribbean said its crew immediately sprang into action following the incident. Some passengers said it appeared to be an impulsive, spur-of-the-moment decision.

"We greatly appreciate the efforts of all, most especially the U.S. Coast Guard and the mariner who spotted the guest in the water," Lupoli told CBS News. "We are beyond grateful that this case ended with a positive outcome," said Lt. Seth Gross, a Coast Guard Sector New Orleans search-and-rescue mission coordinator. "The Jayhawk aircrew hoisted the man onto the helicopter and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport," a statement from the Coast Guard read. The Coast Guard confirmed to The Post it is still conducting a search and rescue operation in the waters off Cuba. Parker jumped off the 18-deck Liberty of the Seas, and Royal Caribbean said it “immediately” launched search boats to look for him with help from the U.S.

The two were last seen together at a restaurant where Grimes had won an air guitar contest before going to the bathroom. In the past few years, most cruise lines have enacted onboard safety measures and surveillance systems to help reduce the risk of overboard deaths. “There was a lot of yelling, and the crew was alerted immediately,” another passenger,  Deborah Morrison, told The Post.

The Coast Guard responded with two cutters and an airplane to search for the 43-year-old man. The Mardi Gras and the cruise ship Elation also participated in the search, said Coast Guard spokesman David Micallef. The man was a passenger on the Carnival Magic cruise ship, which was about 186 miles east of Jacksonville when he fell into the water. LA FAYETTE, ALABAMA -- James Michael Grimes is speaking out for the first time in an exclusive interview with ABC News after going overboard on a Carnival cruise ship after being missing for almost 20 hours. According to the Washington Post, about 386 people were reported to have gone overboard on the major cruise lines between 2000 to 2020.

The man jumped from the Carnival Cruise Lines ship Mardi Gras just after midnight about 55 miles (89 kilometers) east of Port Canaveral, according to the Coast Guard and Carnival. The US Coast Guard announced on Thursday that it called off its search for a man who went overboard from a Carnival Glory cruise in the Gulf of Mexico earlier this week. "The Carnival Care Team is supporting the guest's family. Mardi Gras," said Carnival spokesman Matt Lupoli. The 18-story ship was sailing between Cuba and the Bahamas’ Grand Inagua Island when the as-yet-unidentified man jumped off one of the decks. Parker’s father owns an air conditioning company and the family was cruising on the boat as guests of a wholesale company, according to the New York Post. The release of his identity came shortly after the Coast Guard called off its search for Parker.

Grimes said he treaded water for nearly 20 hours after falling overboard on Thanksgiving Eve -- battling jelly fish, rip currents and shark-infested waters before being airlifted by the U.S. “The early morning was definitely somber as so many people came out of their cabins to stare at the sea, hoping to be able to aid in finding the person,” said Amy Phelps Fouse, a passenger on the ship. Either way, the rescued man has to be thanking his lucky stars for his personal Disney miracle. Sims told the Post that after leaving the hot tub, they encountered the passenger's father while approaching the elevators.

Royal Caribbean confirmed that a passenger, whose identity has not been revealed, went overboard near The Bahamas at about 4 a.m. As Business Insider previously reported, surveillance footage viewed by the ship's security team appeared to show Barnett jumping from Deck 4 after midnight on Monday. According to the Coast Guard's statement, inclement weather made the search more difficult. Crews reportedly faced "8-foot to 12-foot seas, limited visibility, and gale force winds" while searching for Barnett. Carnival's Care Team is "providing support to the family members of the missing guest who were sailing with him and remain on board," Lupoli said. Grimes had only been aboard the Carnival Valor for a day before his sister reported him missing.
